Last weekend was a choice between Dakak and Malapascua. My heart was really set on Dakak because I thought I would be able to make it back by Monday. But when I learned that the trip back will be on a Monday night, I declined.
Malapascua was anything but disappointing. The boatride alone was very breathtaking. Never in my life have I seen such clear blue waters. The water was so clear you can still see the sea floor even if you are already about a kilometer away from the shore.
Daño Beach Resort
This is where we first docked. It looks very much like Puerto Galera but the sand was whiter and finer.
Bantigue Cove
I think this was the most beautiful and affordable resort on the whole island. The resort boasts very fine white sand with native beach chairs sprawled all over, an awesome view from their cottages on top of the rocks (which still has easy access to the beach, and very cozy cottage interior. It was so nice that the guys were convincing me to hold my birthday celebration there this August.
Ship Wreck
I don't know if it was the Pioneer or the Lighthouse wreck we went to. It was the first time though that I'm going to see a ship wreck up close. I have never gone snorkeling and I thought that one needs a lesson to learn how to do so. However, the boatmen just asked me if I knew how to swim and allowed me to go snorkeling unsupervised. It was a pretty stupid move but one well worth it. I swam a couple of meters away from the boat with my snorkeling gear ready and assumed the position. I got captivated the second my goggles got submerged in the water. Imagine floating in cool, clear blue water about 40 meters deep in the middle of a ship wreck with zebra-striped, yellow, and blue fishes swimming underneath. It was the stuff dreams are made of. More fishes even swam very close when we started dropping bread crumbs into the water.
Coral Reef
We made another stop at a coral reef that housed very interesting sea creatures. There were blue corals, white, red, and cream colored corals and more of the brightly colored fishes there. Because of the very clear water it felt more like I was flying instead of floating over the coral reefs.
Clearing
Another stop where nothing but white sand and a very few seaweeds can be seen underwater. Some fishes can still be seen underneath but not as colorful as the ones before.
The current was a little strong that afternoon so we decided to go just play in the shore instead. We had the boatmen take us back to Daño and spent the whole afternoon there.
